Shoemakers of Noreña
Since 1587 there is historical documentation that accredits the important craft activity of leather tanning and footwear in Noreña.
In 2019, the Town Council of Noreña, in collaboration with the families of the old shoemakers of the council, set up this permanent exhibition that collects documents, tools, objects… that are a very important part of its history.
Shoemaking was for centuries the main profession exercised in the Council of Noreña, a sign of identity of the territory in many markets in the province and surrounding areas, Shoemakers and Noreña were therefore part of the same whole. In order to create a brand that defines this permanent collection, both are therefore united in a single symbol: the visual identity of the Permanent Exhibition Shoemakers of Noreña is built from the initials of both concepts.
Its isotype has as its central theme the ‘Z’ of Zapateros (shoemakers), and when it is rotated we can also see an ‘N’ for Noreña. The allusion to the council is reinforced with the use of the small tack of the ‘ñ’ in the shape of a shoemaker’s hammer, one of the most characteristic traditional tools of the profession.
The logo of the brand is bilingual (Castilian-Asturian), as well as all the communication content and information of the exhibition.
“There is no road or country lane in Asturias that is not trodden by the shoes of Noreña”
